What Are the Various Levels of Driving Autonomation?

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) recently updated their J3016 standards for Levels of Automated Driving. The lowest level in the standard is Level 0, which means that “features are limited to providing warnings and momentary assistance” such as blind spot warnings and/or lane departure warnings. The highest level of automation is Level 5, which basically means the vehicle will drive itself from point A to point B in all conditions. Below is the full graphic that describes each level of driving automation and its features.

EPG currently provides a number of services related to autonomous vehicles including:

  • Test Driver/Operator Staffing and Recruiting
  • Autonomous Vehicle Training
  • Testing and Validation
