In a social media post by BloombergNEF, they stated that a battery price survey showed that battery prices have dropped 85%, since 2010, to $176/kWh. According to the chart, in just the last year prices have dropped 18%, from $214/kWh, in 2017. BloombergNEF attributes the reduction in costs to “higher energy density at the cathode material, cell & pack level.”
Our 2018 Battery Price Survey has found that the volume-weighted average price of a lithium-ion battery pack is $176/kWh – the price has fallen 85% in real terms since 2010 due to tech improvements resulting in higher energy density at the cathode material, cell & pack level. pic.twitter.com/BhnA6ezLrd
